Sikalite®

Ready-to-use liquid waterproofing compound which reacts with the constituents of sand : cement mix to block capillaries and pores in concrete. Whilst effective blocking the passage of water, the substrate still continues to breath. Sikalite forms the basis for the Sika render system which is most suitable for the waterproofing of masonry structures and mortar where hydrostatic pressure is not apparent.

ADVANTAGES

Reduced water absorption

Improved watertightness

Improved workability

SURFACE PREPARATION: In renders:

Concrete surfaces must be 100% roughened by hacking, wire brushing, sand-blasting, etc. Fixtures, fittings and other protrusions must be removed. Cracks, porous area and spalling should be cut out and repaired. Water infiltration should be stopped with Sika 102 prior to application of bonding bridge. Use of bonding bridge coat e.g. Sika waterproofing bonding bridge (water, Sika Latex, cement) is necessary. For further information on bonding bridge see Sika Latex Data sheet.

DISPENSING:
Sikalite to the clean mixing water prior to its addition to the dry mixed cement : sand.

APPLICATION:
After mixing 1-2% Sikalite by weight of cement to a trowelable consistency mortar, apply Sikalite mortar render when the bonding bridge is still wet. Each layer is applied at a thickness of  6 - 10 mm and then finished by using wood trowel / float. The second layer is best applied when the first coat has begun to stiffen (usually 4 -5 hours.)

CURING:
Proper curing method is required as for normal cement based products.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Sikalite may cause irritation. Suitable precautions should be taken to minimize direct contact with the skin. If the material gets into the eyes or mucous membrane, rinse immediately with clean water and seek medical attention.
